Rules for Prison Tours

Be sure to be on time for the departure. We leave on the dot!
Tips on dress:

-- Wear comfortable shoes; we often do a lot of walking
-- Dress appropriately for the weather. We will be walking outside.
-- Get a good night's sleep; Tours can be tiring!

The following are the tour rules:

-- NO BLUE JEANS (slacks, non-blue jeans, cords, or other
    apparell is acceptable)
-- NO "PROVOCATIVE" clothing (eg, tight sweaters, "muscle shirts,"
skirts above the lower part of the knee cap)
-- TWO PIECES OF PICTURE ID (eg, license, NIU id)
-- No contraband (eg, pens, key-chain sharp implements,
    pepper spray, lighters, gum, etc)
-- No expensive jewelry and minimal cash (we can leave
    valuables in the vans)
-- DO NOT give anything to or exchange anything with inmates.
 -- Wear undergarments
-- We can bring NOTHING into the prison with us (no combs, pencils,
    rubber bands...only ID)
 -- No chewing gum
-- Piercings may set off the metal detectors and you might be asked
to remove them. If possible, remove all pierced metal items
-- To not give inmates personal information of any kind, other than
the school you attend or the class
-- Do not argue with, insult, or disrespect inmates.
-- DO NOT engage in the "jenny jones" walk or exhibit other
    provocative behavior
-- Yes, you must wear undergarments!

Generally, we will NOT eat during the tour (or stop before or after),
so if you get hungry easily, bring a snack with you.

Prisons are strict/non-nonsense, and if their rules are not followed,
we may all be denied entry.

Remember--you are representing YOUR UNIVERSITY!
