Two theories we have discussed include conflict theory and functionalism,
one focusing on societies as based on conflict/competition and the other on
consensus/cooperation. Ironically, conflict theory, while seeing conflict
and competition as a core element of societies, stresses ways to reduce
social inequality. Functionalists, by contrast, tend to focus more on
how social bonding and consensus function to bind social elements, which--say
critics--tends to support the status quo.

Go to this site and play the game.

Then, explain the strengths and weaknesses of competition vs. consensus
as cultural aspects. Is one better than the other? Draw here from chapter
three (values, ideology and such).
