Extra Credit--Movie Critique

DUE: September 30 (At the start of class)
Up to 10 points
Length: 750-800 words (3-4 pages)

Select EITHER MOVIE (but not BOTH):

    Mulholland Drive
    Momento

Movies usually require that the audience share a framework of meaning
so that we can follow the plot and understand the meanings of what
we see on the screen. Sometimes, when movies break the accepted frame,
we think they're "weird." Sometimes, directors do this to get us to
think about the social world in a new way. So: Choose one movie from
above and:

1) Summarize what the movie is about
2) How does the movie break conventional ways we have of looking at
at and understanding movies (that is, what makes it "weird")?
3) List 5 points that you would want your students to take from the movie
that relate to any of the sociological ideas or themes we've read
4) Does the movie challenge the way we think about things?
5) Is there anything new or different that the movie made you thing about?

These are just guidelines. Feel free to develop other themes or
ideas. Your task is to show that you've thought about the
relationship between the film and course material.

================ OR ====================

Watch BOTH movies and compare and contrast with some sociological insights.
The paper must be about 7 pages (1,500 words). This would be worth
UP TO 15 points.
