DUE: Thursday, September 8 POINTS: Up to 10 LENGTH: 4 to 5 pages (about 750 to 1,000 words) We have discussed the SOCIOLOGICAL IMAGINATIION from Kendall/Chapter 1. Read the following Chicago Tribune Story written about our class two years ago to illustrate the current budget crunch. Then, do the following: 1) Briefly summarize what the story is about. 2) Explain how the SOCIOLOGICAL IMAGINATION relates to how you might make sense out of the story 3) List at least five ways that the budget crunch will affect YOU as a student at NIU 4) Using your "sociological imagination," what are the impacts of the budget cuts on specific groups of students at NIU (eg, women, minorities, special-needs students, faculty, athletcis, or other "stake holders" you think might be affected) 5) Are there any strategies for social action or for addressing the problem? (that is, what can we do about it?)
