GRADING:

  1) Two short papers on selected theorists (50 points each)
  2) Two class presentations on selected theorists (50 points each)
  3) One substantial final paper   (200 points)
  4) 5 quizzes (10 points each - only highest 5 count)
  5) Two net assignments (25 points each)
  6) WebBoard / Net discussions (250 points)
  7) Class participation (100 points)
     (Note: Extra credit will be available)

Course overview and Assignments

Sociological theory (Sociology 473) provides an overview of the
primary theorists, especially Marx, Durkheim, Weber, and Mead. In addition,
theories shaped by these thinkers, such as conflict theory and functionalism,
along with more recent theories, such as postmodernism, will be included.
