Marx Readings

POINTS: Up to 30
DUE: Thursday, October 13
Length: 5-7 pages

Read the following from Marx's German Ideology: On Idealism and Materialism

(Those who want to read the entire work--fairly short--can go to the
Online text of the German Ideology

Although this exercise is not due until October 13, you are encouraged to
begin reading immediately, because we will be discussing the ideas in class
on September 29 and on WebBoard. Read it with this question in mind:
What is the source of a Marxian view of justice/ethics, and how does it
differ from Tyler, Plato, and religious views?

In this paper, address this question (in a way that shows you are thinking
about class issues):

What is the basis of a Marxian view of justice? (ie, on what does it rest?).
This excerise is open-ended, and your only obligation (that on which you
will be graded) is to demonstrate that you understand what you've read and
can integrate other themes in the class.
