SOCI 452:FINAL EXAM

Here is the midterm. Return no later than Thursday, July 20, but don't
wait until the last minute.

Select TWO (but only two) from the following, and answer completely.
Each answer should be 500+ words. Each question is worth 50 points.

1. Compare and contrast any three of the following:
   1) Marx
   2) Plato
   3) Singer (perceptions of justice)
   4) Liberation theology
   5) Christianity 
   6) Yourself (This one is mandatory: You MUST include this one)

HINT:
There are many ways to approach this. For example, we have addressed
issues such as:

   1) Rule following/outcome oriented foundations
   2) Social/normative constructs and absolute rules
   3) Natural law/Postive law

2. Draw from ALL READINGS, ASSIGNMENTS, WEBBOARD MATERIAL, and Saturday's class
(July 15) to defend your position, based on theory, logic, facts, and a strong 
conception of justice.

Take both sides of the following:

RESOLVED: Sexism, Racism, and Class divisions are JUST, can be positive
characteristics for society, and can promote stability and harmony.

Defend both sides equally strongly by justifying with the our readings.

3. Discuss: Baseball: THE ALL-AMERICAN GAME? Discuss baseball as a window
into the history of justice/injustice in the U.S. since 1880.
(Remember: This isn't about baseball, but about IDEOLOGY, the social
context of "justice," social change, and the power of tradition to
reinforce injustice.
