Class Participation

Class participation is worth up to 100 points.

Because an online class requires full participation by all students,
class participation (up to 100 points) will be based primarily on the
quantity and quality of WebBoard postings. A pattern of consistent
participation over eight weeks is critical to maintain the integrity
of an online class.

To obtain any class participation points, you MUST have participated
on WebBoard enough to demonstrate online involvement. This means that
you must have attained a near-passing grade on WebBoard, or an F+.
So, to receive ANY participation points, you must have at least 50
percent of the 250 possible WebBoard points available.

Students who have satisfied the WebBoard component by demonstrating
participation will receive a percentage of their combined WebBoard,
midterm, and final exam grades, which combined provide up to 450 points.
For example: If total scores on these three examples equaled 400
points, that's 80 percent. So you would get 80 pct of the 100
class participation grade: 80% of 100 = 80.

NOTE: IF YOU DID SOMETHING TO DISTINGUISH YOURSELF UPWARDS OR DOWNWARDS,
THAT GRADE COULD CHANGE. Examples:
--dramatic and sustained improvement would give you more points
--going well beyond the call of duty would give you more points
--Not participating in class activities (teams, WebBoard) would lose points
Non-participation is a serious deduction, regardless of exam scores.
Failure to participate violates the basic tenet of the class, as
    explained the first day.
