Answer the following completly in at least 400-500 words for each question. Each question is worth up to 50 points. Answers must reflect class lectures and readings and address issues raised in class about the complexity of the questions. You may use outside sources to supplement your answers, but you must cite your sources. Remember: I do not give "crazy points," and your answers cannot be something that anybody could write without learning anything in class. PART A (answer one BUT ONLY ONE): 1. Prisons: What works? 2. What are the pros and cons of educating prisoners? 3. Compare and contrast Sheridan and Pontiac by describing how the following affect how a warden runs each one: c) Mission (Do they have the same mission?) b) Architecture (does form follow function, or vice-versa?) c) Control strategies d) Resources/budgets e) Programming f) Differences in inmate composition 4. Should inmates be allowed to donate an organ (to hospitals for organ transplants) in return for significant extra privileges or even a reduction in their sentence? PART B (answer one BUT ONLY ONE): 5. As the warden of a prison, you are asked this question by a reporter: "What is the relationship between prison accreditation standards and budgets and how do you, as a warden, deal with it in a time of declining resources for prisons?" 6. Prison programs: Who cares? 7. Describe the pros and cons of loose coupling in prisons (refer to the class reading and lectures) and answer completely).
