Here are some tips for reading chapter 13: 1) We discussed the variety of stakeholders that prison administrators, including wardens and those in a state's department of corrections, must deal with. List about five stakeholders and explain what they face, how they could/should deal with them, and what obstacles they face? Draw from all the class examples given in lecture. 2) Read the article on "Negotiated Order and Loose Coupling." Then, fully explain---drawing from examples throughout the semester--ways in which loose coupling occurs for both good and ill. You should be able to define/explain loose coupling and illustrate how it plays out in real life. Conclude by explaining the pros and cons of both strict rule following and rule-bending.
