Extra Credit--Prison Movies

PRISON MOVIES: Up to 10 points each
LENGTH: About 1000 words (4 to 5 pages)

No papers accepted after the due date for final papers

   1) Only one movie can be turned in in a week
   2) No more than 3 movies will be graded (that is,
if you turn in more than 3 papers, only the
highest three grades will be recorded)

I have several documentaries and films about prisons/prisoners in my
office. You may check these out and view them, or you may, with
prior permission, obtain one of your own from tv or a video rental.

In general:

1) Summarize what the movie is about
2) If you were to write a lecture for sociology 388, what relevance would
you say that it had for the course
3) List 5 points that you would want your students to take from the
  movie
4) Does the movie advocate punishment, rehabilitation, or something else?
5) Can you identify a "correctional ideology" in the work?

These are just guidelines. Feel free to develop other themes or
ideas. Your task is to show that you've thought about the
relationship between the film and course material.
