Sociology 488 (Delinquency) Jim Thomas T - Th: 3:30 - 4:44 (Du 202C) 807 Zulauf Office Hours: T-Th 1:50 - 3:25 753-6436 (o) 756-3839 (h) SYLLABUS: DELINQUENCY (SOCI 488) Juvenile Delinquency focuses on minors who commit crimes. In this course, we will examine theories, definitions, and trends in delinquency. We will also discuss the juvenile justice system and social responses to delinquency. GRADING: Grading will be done on the basis of: a) Two Exams (100 points each) b) 5 (five) short 3-5 page papers on chapters (20 points each) c) Class participation (50 points) d) Pop quizzes (50 points - only top 5 grades will count) e) Email discussion - 50 points ____________ Total = 450 points. Grading will be 90/80/70/60 pct scale ASSIGNED READINGS: Regoli and Hewitt: DELINQUENCY IN SOCIETY Occasional handouts Attendance, class participation, and keeping up on assignments are crucial.
