FOR MODULE TWO / Chapters 3 and 4 DUE: NO LATER THAN July 11 POINTS: UP TO 30 PAPER LENGTH: About 1,500 words (5-6 pages) 1. For any two of the major theories we've read in chapters 3 and 4, assess the following: a) The historical context in which the theory developed (ie, what social/historical factors influenced it?) b) What is the definition of "crime/offense" (ie, legal? normative? transcendent? c) What are the key points of the theory? d) What kinds of questions is the theory best able or least able to address? e) Is the theory closest to liberal, radical, conservative, or libertarian ideologies? f) What are the policy implications of the theory? (ie, how do we implement it? 2. Return to the Juvenile Crime Bill and ask which (if any) of the theories in chapters 3-4 guide any of the suggested policies.
