FOR: NO LATER THAN Wednesday, February 7

To start off the course, we'll be doing this (This assignment is NOT for
points; it's just part of the required work to get us all moving forward).
THE DEADLINE to have this done is Jan 14, but if you put it up earlier
(after Jan 1) we can start reading more leisurely.

1. Read the first chapter of Regoli and Hewitt chapter (and think about
the assignments for the first few weeks)
See THE FIRST MODULE for the core assigs

2. Identify what you think is the most pressing issue in juvenile
corrections (eg, crime rates; juvenile justice; lack of research;
youth violence; school safety; gangs - identify one (but only one)
single them)

3. After reading the first chapter, do an Internet search (google, altavista,
or some other search engine). Better, use the archives of a major
newspaper (eg, Chicago Tribune, New York Times, Boston Globe).
The intent of the search is to:
   a) Give you enough background to discuss the issue with others on WebBoard
   b) Give you one primary source (preferably short, such as a news story
      that illustrates the problem)

4) Post ONE (at most two) URL(s) for the rest of us to click on so we
can have a sense of what the issues are. Make sure that the URL is a
workable link directly to the story (that is, don't just post:
http://www.chicagotribune.com - instead, post the complete URL
that takes us directly to the story.

5) We will start discussing these as they appear.
