--What is the difference between an assignment and extra credit? Why are some assignments also worth extra credit points, and vice versa?-- Does it matter which I count a work for? The main difference is that you CANNOT use extra credit to move into the A grade range of total points. So, given a choice, it's better to use your work for an assignment rather than extra credit. However, if you have "maxed out" on assignment points, and you think you may need more points because you may not do well on a test of final paper, then you can use your extra credit points to improve your grade. Even though extra credit WILL NOT be counted towards an A, there is no limit on the amount you can earn, so the points might be useful to move into a better grade range than the one you fear you might receieve. A second difference is that sometimes the same work is worth fewer points as extra credit than as an assignment.
