WHAT IS WEBBOARD FOR AND HOW IS IT GRADED? WebBoard is the primary way we will communicate. Hence, it is CRUCIAL that all students participate fully. A few tips: 1) Post fairly consistently each week. The minimal expectation is about three (3) substantive posts. 2) Post consistantly each week. Although it won't hurt a grade if a week or two is missed, the expectation is that posts will be made fairly evenly over time. Hence, No postings for 12 weeks and a flurry of posts in the final 3 weeks will be considered to be an F, because the first 80 percent of the course was missed. The course depends on a steady exchange of ideas, so posting is imperative. 3) a SUBSTANTIVE post is one that provides information, generates discussion, provokes thinking, or otherwise reflects involvement in class material. "Fun posts" are fine as long as the poster also posts substantive material. 4) GRADING will be done on a combination of quantitity and quality. Because quality counts heavily, a poster who posts only 2 posts a week (normally a D) but has high content will be upgraded dramatically. A poster who posts 10 posts a week but doesn't say much more than "me too," or "I agree," or "How 'bout them Cubs" will be downgraded dramatically. QUALITY, CONSISTENCY, and then quantity. REMEMBER: WebBoard is equivalent to a CLASSS DISCUSSION, so post accordingly.
