The following is the final exam. Select ANY FOUR and answer completely. Answers must reflect ALL sources, including text, WebBoard, news articles, and other information. Be sure to cite any sources you use. Answers should be *at least* 300 words each. Each question is worth 25 points. The answers are due NO LATER THAN Tuesday at Midnight. I have created a place on WebBoard if people want to discuss the material. They MUST be in a format I can read. Remember: The goal is to demonstrate that you've learned a lot in the course. ============================ 1. What should be the goal of juvenile corrections? Drawing from your knowledge of theories, various studies, and all other sources, explain how you would apply what you have learned in this class to administering a juvenile corrections instution. How would it differ from St. Charles? 2. Of all the variables we've studied (eg, race, sex, education, parents, family, schools, peers, drugs, etc) does knowledge of the relationship between these variables and delinquency help guide the policy of a juvenile institution? If so, how? If now, what's missing? 3. What makes kids bad? 4. How does the "Hidden system of social control" operate as an alternative to our traditional approach to control of status offenders? 5. Discuss any four law cases that have shaped the rights of juvenile offenders and explain whether these cases have gone far enough in protecting the civil liberties of juveniles. 6. At what age should juveniles be held "accountable" for their behavior? (fully explain why, of course). 7. What are the most serious problems facing the juvenile justice system today and how would you solve them? 8. Right a question of your own that reflects your knowledge of course material.
