Alligators and Kitty Genovese

DUE: January 31
Points: Up to 10
Length: about 500-600 words

Kitty Genovese came up in class. The question: What obligations do we
owe each other, and to what extent are individuals responsible for
creating a shared community of justice (rather than leave it to CJ
professionals)?

We've read the ALLIGATOR STORY in class.

Now, take a look at the following:

  • Kitty Genovese background
  • Why be "good"? 1. What obligations do people owe each other? 2. Drawing from the readings on types of social justice, explain why one could make an argument for or against this statement: "IT IS UNJUST TO TURN DOWN ABIGAIL'S PLEA FOR HELP" 3. If you were a "god" who had to judge ivan (ie, he could enter heaven, or valhalla, or whereever dead folk go), how would you judge? Remember: This isn't an opinion exercise: You should be able to back up your position with reasons. Feel free to Google "moral philosophy" or anything else that might help you.
