NOTE: Because of the weather-shortened class on Jan 31, we held off on theory until this week. Last Saturday, I sent out a reading that we will refer to during the semester: Max's Weber's Objectivity of social science and social policy Be sure to read it, or at least to know what it says. The rest of this week is review: TOPIC: What's theory have to do with it? This week is primarily review. Take a look at the most this WEBBOARD SNIPPET that will guide us. 1. Review Last week's material 2. Take a look at this short excerpt on Integrative Criminology 3. Then, select your two favorite theories from your other criminology courses (grad or undergrad), especially any theory classes, and summarize them for yourself. Although it WILL NOT BE HANDED IN, you should consider a page of notes that includes a summary, one or two representative scholars, and two or three key points in the theory. We will use it for the following: --BRIEF class discussion --Discussion on WebBoard Your thinking should focus on how you would apply theory to one of the following: --changes in law over time, especially due process --How we might explain the content of law
