Shortly before Thanksgiving,
1996, the Northern Illinois University Administration discovered that,
under Illinois' recent
Community Notification Law for sex offenders, two
students had registered with local police. The University evicted
the students the day before Thanksgiving, requiring that they vacate
by the following Sunday. The University continues to defend its
actions, but controversy remains.
