DUE: May 7 Points: Up to 20 LENGTH: 1,000+ words (4 to 5 pages) This assignment is MUCH MORE DIFFICULT THAN IT MIGHT APPEAR! It is not simply a movie critique. It is an attempt to examine the meaning of "post-modernist" movies in the context of contemporary post-modernist theory that will will discuss toward the end of class. You may do any one of these movies, or two, or three. BE FOREWARNED: *DO NOT* BS or just slap words on paper. You must demonstrate: 1) That you understand postmodernism 2) That you saw and thought deeply about the movies 3) That you can apply postmodernism (drawing from W&W, lectures, class readings, and AT LEAST ONE OUTSIDE SCHOLARLY SOURCE) Check out the readings for Chapter 8 and Postmodernism. Grading will not be on a 90/80/70 scale. It will be on a scale similar to that of grading movies, where (on a ten point scale) a 5 is average (or a C). That means that, out of 20 points, a C could from 8 to 12 points. This will take work and thought, so do not waste your time unless you think you understand it. I don't want people grousing about why they received a 5 (D) out of 20. I EMPHASIZE: This could be lots of fun, but if you're just slapping out words out of desparation for points, forget it. The three movies: 1) Mulholland Drive 2) Jacobs Ladder 3) Fight Club
