Then read these two articles (easy and short) by Professor Kristen Myers, who has done considerable research on race and "talk:" Summary of Race Talk and Race talk This Tribune piece by Dawn Trice will be helpful. Then, drawing from symbolic interaction, explain how we can THEORETICALLY examine Obama's speech in a way that lets us begin to address his key theme. The trick is to explain what he's saying briefly, tie it to some interactionist theme(s), and then address the relevance for applying theory to everyday life. NOTE: THIS *IS NOT* a political paper - it makes no difference with whether you like him or Clinton or McCain--this is sociological analysis!
