Assignment - February 7

For the introduction to theory, do the following and be
prepared to discuss it in class. We will discuss this on WebBoard.

  1) Read the Juvenile Crime Bill (S993) 

  2) What provisions do you feel:
     a) will work
     b) will not work
     c) may be "too harsh"
     d) may be too expensive

  3) Over the next few weeks, we will begin looking at the implicit
     theoretical assumptions underlying the provisions in the Bill. 
     We can start now by asking: Is there a theory of "human nature"
     (ie, free will, determinism, something in between) that underlies
     the provisions?
