Guidelines for Short Papers

Here are some TIPS FOR THE PAPERS

The general guidelines:
The four short papers will be due on the following dates.
Each paper is due NO LATER THAN:

PAPER 1: Thursday Sept 26

PAPER 2: Thursday, Oct 17

PAPER 3: Thursday Nov 7

PAPER 4: Tuesday, Nov 26 (Paper 4 WILL NOT be accepted after Dec 3).

Late papers will be penalized at 3 points a day, up to 50 pct of the
grade. A late paper CANNOT be submitted after the due date of the
next paper. For example, Paper 1 will not be accepted after Oct 17,
paper 2 will not be accepted after Nov 7. Paper 4 WILL NOT be
accepted after December 3. Such papers will receive a zero.

Basic instructions:

1) Each paper will be about 5 to 6 pages, or about 1,500 words.

2) The papers MUST BE original - that is they must be your own ideas.

3) Although you may develop your own ideas, I will occasionally suggest
paper topics in class and on webboard.

5) To get an A, it will be necessary go to the library or LEGITIMATE
internet sources to do additional reading

6) The expectation in the papers is simple: You identify some issue,
theme, problem, application, or something else that interests you
and explore it. The broad goal is that you
   a) Show that you understand the theory
   b) Are able to apply, critique, develop, or otherwise do something
more than just summarize the theory
