Theory Exercise

                     TEAM EXERCISE IN THEORY

OBJECT: The point of this game is to identify which theory is being
presented. We will begin with a single clue, and each day for 5 days
we will add a new clue until either one group correctly identifies
the theory, OR until the exercise is over. If nobody identifies the
theory, nobody will receive points.

PROCEDURE:

1) I will post a clue a day for 5 days to all teams

2) Team members will discuss the clue and try to identify the
theory - if no team guesses after day 1, I will post a second
clue on day 2....to day (and clue) 5.

3) All team members must contribute at some point during the exercise
to provide information, or agree/vote on, or otherwise help the team.
Only when ALL team members have logged in to participate may a team
leader post the answer.

4) The answer MUST include two components:
   a) The theory
   b) The reasons (this can be a short summary of about 100-200 words)

5) Teams will discuss this in their team area (eg, TEAM-A, etc)

RULES:

1) Only the group leader can post the answer when the group as a
whole believes, and agrees, that they have the correct answer.
The answer will be posted in the TEAM EXERCISE Concerence...only
team leaders may post here...it's read-only for everybody else.
The answer will be posted in the WE HAVE A WINNER conference.

2) BUT: Before a group leader can post, ALL GROUP MEMBERS MUST
HAVE SIGNED INTO THEIR GROUP AND PARTCIPATED IN THE ANSWER.
Therefore, people who don't participate will hurt the grade of their
team.

3) If a group identifies the correct theory, then ALL GROUP MEMBERS
each receive 10 miscellaneous points.

4) Repeat: See #3: It is REQUIRED that all team members
participate.

5) If some people consistently do not participate in the
exercises, they may be removed from their group (or "voted off the
island) and placed in TEAM-E (where I will be the group leader). You
may be returned to your ORIGINAL team ONLY AFTER YOUR DEMONSTRATE A TEAM
SPIRIT AND WILLINGNESS TO PARTICIPATE.

7) If two teams obtain the correct answer simulteaneously, then
both teams receive the full ten points.

8) Team leaders may excuse (or "give a pass to") absent team members
when that absence is preventing the team leader from posting what is
believed to be the correct answer. A team has as many "free passes"
as it does team members (exluding team leader). For example, if Team-A has
7 members, that team has 7 free passes. If the team believes it has the
correct answer, but two members have not logged in, it may give those
two members a "pass" and submit the answer with only 5 members who
have logged in to participate in the answer. This would leave the team
with 5 remaining passes. Once the 7 passes are used up, there will
be no more passes. The names of the team member receiving a pass will
be reported to the instructor. If one person receives multiple passes,
they may be "voted off the Island and relegated to Team-E, either by
the vote of the team or at the discretion of the instructor. Passes should
be used with care, because they must last the entire term.

9) If a team posts the wrong answer, it will be disqualifed, and only
the remaining teams will compete.

10) The FIRST PERSON to post the correct answer will receive FIVE (5) extra
Miscellaneous points, whether their team wins or not. The second person
to post the correct answer in another team will receive 3 extra
Miscellaneous points. These people will receive the points even if
their team posts the incorrect answer.

11) Correct answers posted on the same calendar day will be considered a
tie.
