The goals of this  course are to a)  present a  summary overview of
fundamental concepts, theories and methods used in social analysis, b)
examine selected social theorists, and c)  apply selected concepts and
theories to aspects of our own social world.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

 --Three (3) multiple choice tests (100 points each)
 --Pop quizzes (10 points each; only top five grades count)
 --TWO short papers (50 points each): 
        **First paper is due:  October 11 
        **Second paper due:  November 3
 --Class participation and involvement (50 points)
 --Subscription to class mail list required - part of class participation)
   (NOTE: YOU CAN LOSE POINTS IF YOU DO NOT SIGN UP!)

Grading will be done on a 90/80/70/60/ scale.

WITHOUT EXCEPTION, students must:

   1.  Keep up on ASSIGNMENTS
   2.  Keep informed of current events
   3.  Be prepared to answer questions
   4.  Know what goes on in class.  If you are absent,  you are still
       responsible for turning in work and knowing material.  Because
       it may be  necessary to change dates of  tests or assignments,
       you MUST take responsibililty for  knowing what occured in your
       absence.
